The South Korean pianist So Young Lim received her first piano lessons from her aunt at the age of four. As a small child, she witnessed many concerts by her father, the famous Korean composer and conductor Jong-Gil Lim, which sparked her dream of becoming a pianist even then.
After completing her bachelor’s degree in her hometown of Busan, she moved to Germany to continue her studies in solo piano. First she completed her diploma with Prof. Herbert Seidel at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main; She then obtained her concert exam with Prof. Ulrich Urban at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig. During her exams she was already engaged as a répétiteur at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf.
In 2008 she returned to South Korea for five years as a lecturer in solo piano, accompaniment for wind instruments, strings and voice. Since 2009 she has been involved in numerous opera productions as a répétiteur: in South Korea she has performed, among others, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and L’elisir d’amor, at the St. Margarethen Aida Opera Festival, at the Schwerin Castle Festival, and under Maestro Antoni Wir Turandot in the Teatr Wielki in Lodz.
Since 2013 she has been working as a concert pianist, répétiteur and piano teacher.
Die südkoreanische Pianistin So Young Lim bekam mit 4 Jahren durch ihre Tante den ersten Klavierunterricht. Als kleines Kind erlebte sie viele Konzerte ihres Vaters, dem berühmten koreanischen Komponisten und Dirigenten Jong-Gil Lim, was schon damals den Traum in ihr weckte, Pianistin zu werden.
Nach dem Bachelorabschluss in ihrer Heimatstadt Busan, wechselte sie für das weitere Studium im Solo-Klavier nach Deutschland. Zunächst schloss sie bei Herrn Prof. Herbert Seidel an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main ihr Diplom; im Anschluss erlangte sie bei Herrn Prof. Ulrich Urban an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig ihr Konzertexamen. Bereits während des Examens war sie schon als Korrepetitorin an der Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf engagiert.
Im Jahr 2008 kehrte sie für fünf Jahre als Dozentin im Fachbereich Soloklavier, Korrepetition für Bläser, Streicher und Gesang nach Südkorea zurück. Seit 2009 wirkte sie an zahlreichen Opernproduktionen als Korrepetitorin mit: In Südkorea spielte sie unter anderem Il Barbiere di Siviglia und L’elisir d’amor, bei den Opernfestspiele St. Margarethen Aida, bei den Schlossfestspielen Schwerin, und unter Maestro Antoni Wir Turandot im Teatr Wielki in Lodz.
Seit 2013 ist sie als Konzertpianistin, Korrepetitorin, Klavierlehrerin tätig.
